Had more than a few moments of 'wait, should I roll to persuade this guy?'

On the other hand, though, I do like using a 'skill check' style system to determine degrees of success. Looking for a guide who'll travel with you? Not a skill check, but I'll cut their asking price in half if you make a good Charisma roll.Norn's Dominionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01802928625469063307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-392427526916288536.post-87455314987873306942017-11-29T17:20:45.935-08:002017-11-29T17:20:45.935-08:00On the far end of things I know a player who got a...On the far end of things I know a player who got a little bored and declared "I roll to go down the stairs".
It did not end well, but at least he didn't fall up the stairs.TPmanWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08415910295872695542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-392427526916288536.post-91582554527887173992016-03-21T17:46:40.159-07:002016-03-21T17:46:40.159-07:00This is the way I played for years back when AD&am...This is the way I played for years back when AD&D was just the game we played, rather than an OSR thing. We essentially just had everyone start with a "background" that you decided on and went from there.

If what you wanted to do was something anyone could do with decent competency, you auto-pass. If it's something dangerous or difficult covered by your class, race, or background, it's an ability score check. If it's extremely difficult, then you roll under _half_ your ability score.
